Upgrade DR-008 1.9.1 to GURU ;-)

Postby puffer dlf » Sun Feb 08, 2009 3:48 pm

I know, I know... but it doesn't hurt to ask, right? ;-)

You were giving up/cross-grade discounts a while back when GURU first superseded DR-008. At the time I was skint and still getting my mind around DR-008 (and the other drum tools I had). And, frankly, I've put it off for a while 'cause $245 for me is a bit of an investment. I've kept chugging along with BFD/DR-008 and Kontakt, as well as whatever I could do in Sonar.

Well, DR-008 has now actively given me issues with Sonar 7/8, and I've long since been bumping up against it's cramped programming interface (no offense, but you have to admit, it's a little long in the tooth). And Cakewalk's Beatscape has whetted my appetite for a good software beatslicer...

And the slice to pad thing seems like the s#$t!

So, this old-time DR-008 user is going to finally come onboard the good ship GURU. Any chance I can beg a favor as a long-time user?

Cheers,
C. Puffer

Much thanks!
:D

Thereby proving that fxpansion is indeed the absolute tops when it comes to customer relations.

Purchased!

I swore to myself I wasn't buying any new synths this year, but you all just sold a D-CAM to this user.

Angus, I received this yesterday. Downloading the updated content now - holy mackerel that's a good lot of content there. Really looking forward to getting in deep with this!

Thanks. If there's ever anything I can do for you.

Thanks! Anything you can do..? well, a bottle of good single malt, cognac or armagnac is always welcome  seriously tho.. most useful thing is to spread the word.. either about GURU, or about the FX-office' penchant for such things 8) Cheers!

All the best,
Angus.

Apparently I was describing a lot of GURU in there. :D

I'm telling you, though, that internal MIDI routing thing is a pretty ripe idea.

Because I have so much free time on my hands ;-) I dug through google to find the thread that originally got me onto the idea:

This is from Cakewalk forum MIDI guru 'b rock' (Tom B.)
Per-track MIDI LFO in the Track Inspector.
- generates selectable waveforms, with 2 user-defined slots for loading waveshapes.
- submixer for grouping / blending multiple MIDI LFO waveshapes together.
- routes to track automation, the arpeggiator, synth, effects, or to MIDI out.
- tempo sync / frequency switch.
- latch / unlatch switch.
- count parameter from 1 -16; infinite.]

Now he was talking about the Groove Matrix in Project 5.

My revision was further informed by using HyperCyclic (a MIDI waveform/LFO generator) and my DSI evolver, which can use one of the step sequencers to change the Clock Div.

So my idea is to make these MIDI waveform generators available as pads/triggers that can modulate other pads.

Obviously, I'm way out of my depth. But I'll explain it to anyone who will listen. ;-)

I think you'll like the step sequencer in Fusor for that kind of thing. It's not really for drums, but the FuseMod modulation routing scheme makes the kind of routing you're talking about really easy & intuitive.

Holy Crap. Ask and ye shall receive. 8)

Seriously, I'm very glad to hear that. Indeed, I'm way more interested in the modulation and timing possibilities of tonal material than just creating beats. But I like the idea of it all linking together. I look forward to exploring this - to say the least.
