Geist 2? Will it ever happen..

Postby pornophonica » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:14 pm

I've been coming every 2-3 months for a year or more to see if a big update to geist has or will come. I remember one of the FX guys posted some teasers of the next version, but that was months ago now.

Just wondering if waiting is futile, can you show us anything ?

Is it any closer or has it been shelved in favour of something else in development?

Regards,
A fan of Geist

Its's not exactly Maschine round here is it - NI are doing the simple things right by releasing regular updates for bug fixes, and regular updates for feature enhancement. About a year ago FX said an update was on the way...

Thanks, yes I did miss it, I don't frequent that forum.
Well it's good to see that it's in progress, I hope you can get it out soon, is there an ETA?

I'm not holding my breath, but thanks for giving us some info :D
Personally I'm not after a massive update, a larger screen version of what we have, with much improved browser window is what I want.
I look forward to any updates.

Good to see there's a Transmod tab in there!

Hope this one has the Guru engine. The sound out of Guru was a lot warmer than Geist. Geist was a little bit abrasive compared to Geist. In my opinion. But all in all this looks MARVELOUS!!

The octave dial is a very welcome feature that should fix the pitching limitations from V.1.x.x. Though I do wonder how much coding is involved in going from -/+12 to -/+24 semitones either side of the root Ed: in v1 with a small update. That would be superb!

Hmmm, I was hoping we'd be able to pitch further than 12 in either direction. True, we don't know what the ranges actually are, but a separate octave dial doesn't look promising.

Was also hoping we'd be able to slowly automate the pitch of a pad upwards over say, 16 bars. Great techno inspired effect, but doesn't look like that'll be possible by the separate Tune and Fine knobs.

Also the predelay being set fully anti-clockwise by default doesn't look like we're able to move a pad slightly before the beat for those loose housey claps.

I realise we shouldn't make assumptions based on a very early screenshot, but it makes me a bit wary, as these were all things requested years ago for Geist 1... :?

Looks like it's moving further away from being the MPC2000xl substitute I was looking for.

My MPC had a 248x60 dot graphic LCD but still gave me better workflow. Software companies could learn a lot from that.
