Geist sounds, music genere and future questions

Postby Oblak » Wed Jan 06, 2016 5:43 pm

Hi

1. There is very small demo version only arnound 126MB. I found there are "melody" samples - melodies and etc.. from synths. I have question, is there lot of drum samples in full version (more then melody) or it is for 50%? I hope there are more drum samples.

2. Is geist good for Drum and Bass, electronica and rock / metal music? I found DnB demo project, not bad, but not my taste. Are in full version more DnB kits and other genres I asked for?

there are some music examples for what drum sound I like:

I like every drum used in this UT 2004 soundtrack

Some DnB drum for examples

3. I see there is discusion about Geist 2. Is coming soon or there is longer path for release? And will be there some special upgrade price for Geist owner?

Thanks.

Yep, I'd say it's good for DnB. The main reasons being:

- the ability to quickly slice loops (think Dr Rex, Phatmatik Pro, Recycle)

- midi pattern triggering allows for synced beat chopping
- allows for switching between processed and unprocessed loops mid pattern (think Amen break heaven)
- introduces a performance element to arrangement that linear editing cannot compete with
- allows new ideas to be generated on the fly

- includes very suitable FX and dynamics processing

- 8 layers per pad allowing for creative kits, each with own FX and modulation section

- flexible routing allows for internal pad sends to be routed to host FX
- per note settings will allow for big reverb hits and other FX to be applied internally/externally.

Most of all it's fun!

If you're still interested have a look at this. I'm no DnB producer but this kind of break chopping is easy enough to do.

Tremor is also something you should consider.

Niiiicceee!

You mention in the video blurb (well I assume it is your video) that Geist is now happy in Ableton Live as opposed to Bitwig. Any details on that? It might be something we need to look into.

Thanks Drew!
There was a bit of anthropomorphising going there. Geist is fine in Bitwig really; the only thing missing is the ability to play clips legato the way you would with the patterns. Bitwig has the edge when setting up multichannel mode though, it's a LOT quicker. I just prefer Live and feel more free to experiment.

Excellent. Welcome to the club!
Here's to hoping you get a free upgrade (assuming you are a pre-£69 buyer).
Please post some stuff on Youtube or wherever. It would be good to see what you do with it.
