Spam killers!!

Postby purtington » Mon Dec 04, 2017 12:36 pm

Please fxpansion can somebody not deal with these spammers?

This morning someone/thing who goes by the name of "rymhfntgkfgh" posted 583 new posts of drivel or Chinese symbols.

Is there no way these people can be stopped?

How about making one or two regular contributors on here moderators and give them the power to delete messages and the profiles of spammers?

Or how about limiting non registered users posts to one every 2 weeks?

I appreciate that there are plenty genuine readers who are thinking of buying from fxpansion and have questions but limiting them to one post a fortnight wouldn't be too hard and they can always ask a bunch of questions in the one post if they need to answer their questions.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for raising this and our apologies for the disruption it's causing. We're working to ensure it's removed ASAP and prevented in the future.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Just an update - we took the forum offline to do some tidying and we're now back up and running. We're looking at further preventatives we can introduce to prevent further issues from occurring.

Thanks again for your vigilance and support.

Lawrence

Yeah I thought the same, although it seemed to disappear for a while it's back as bad as it ever was.

Perhaps the new measures are only in force on the most frequently used forums as I've not seen any on the BFD3 forumn
for a few weeks now.

User 'jygfjetyjfg' has just this morning posted 1170 new posts!!!

This is insane, can you not at least limit the number of posts per day that a new user (or any user) can make?

Whilst it wouldn't completely stop them it would make an enormous difference as 1170 posts in one day completely swamps
the forum.

Spam's got really bad again lately, any new measures that can be brought in to hold it back a bit?

It might seem a bit drastic, but if it were up to me I would ditch this entire forum and re-invigorate the old kvr forum instead. At least spam isn't really a problem there. Currently it seems that they don't have the will or manpower to deal with the situation here.

I don't use many other forums really, since sonar bit the dust and I only ever rarely visited KVR but neither of them have problems with spam or if they do it's ocasional and usually one at a time. There are people (?) posting 1,500 posts a day on here and it just looks like fxpansion aren't really bothered.

I know they're not the web hosts and I think it's down to them to deal with it but it creates a really bad impression for any new users and just makes it impossible to find posts from people genuinly wanting help so they get ignored.

I don't understand why they can't just limit any unregistered people posting down to one post per day and that posts would need to be checked first. Hardly daconian or unfair and it would completly rid the forum of spam I think.

The Cakewalk forum allowed a handful of regular users to become moderators too which made a big difference.

Not so sure about ditching the forum, as there's a lot of useful info here, and spreading it between two forums could get confusing... that said, Cypher 2's forum is on ROLI's site instead of this, which feels like an odd move.

This is the bit that gets me the most... it's not a good look and could well be putting people off purchasing the software. Also at times when I've logged in to check the posts and the spam's been cleared, I've found posts from 2+ days ago that I could have helped with much quicker!

As I understand it it's newly registered users that are making the spam posts, unregistered users can't post. But yes, limiting new users to a few posts - I'd say maybe 5 as a genuine new user may have more than one question, this would be a good solution for the time being.

Maybe not actually a bad idea. Was going to say I wouldn't be up for having to delete 1500 threads every day, but if you can just delete a user and all their spam posts in a couple of clicks, that'd make logging in a much nicer process. Could even deal with a certain troll while I'm at it

Maybe they could clear out all the spam here and close this forum to new members. That way the information would be preserved and new users encouraged to register at kvr instead. It's not ideal I know, but surely better than the current situation.
