What is DCAM FreeComp?

DCAM FreeComp is a free bus compression plugin for AU/VST/RTAS hosts.

Please tell me more about this compressor.

FreeComp is a simplified version of the BusComp found in DCAM Dynamics.

It is a circuit-modelled algorithm based on a classic British console bus compressor, designed for adding 'glue' and presence to a drum sub-group or a mix of any instruments. It's fairly common to use a bus compressor on the master output of your entire stereo mix.

Of course, it can also be used on tracks and individual sources, offering a different flavour to other conventional channel compressors.

Why does DCAM FreeComp need to be licensed/authorized when it's a free plugin?

While DCAM FreeComp is free for personal and commercial use, it is to be used under license like any other software from us, and we'd like it to be a taste of what it's like when purchasing a product from us. We worked hard to make our challenge/response copy protection as non-intrusive and fair as possible, and will continue to improve it to make it even better.

DCAM FreeComp features a challenge-response authorization system, with three installs on your own machines allowed simultaneously.

You do NOT need to have an internet connection on the computers on which it is installed.

Until DCAM FreeComp has been authorized, it can be run in demo mode (which cannot save settings and times out every 30 minutes).

We have tried very hard to make our authorization procedure as pain-free as possible and to keep the price of our products affordable. Our products do not use iLok or any other unified protection scheme. We do not believe in such systems' security, and would rather not pass on their costs to our customers.

Do I need to re-authorize when installing the OS again or upgrading the OS/hardware?

A new major operating system version is enough of a change that the authorization system will require re-authing the product; point releases should be fine. Likewise, a significant hardware change will also require re-authorization. We will be monitoring the situation closely and adjusting the flexibility of the authorization system to get the best balance of copy protection and annoyance levels.

If reinstalling an existing OS without changing any hardware, you will be able to save the auth file and simply re-import it when authorizing the product again.
